Why Server 2003?

Most people think other versions can tackle server 2003. Here I am providing you basic information on different applications available with server 2003.Depending on in which way you want to use it, that will decide your requirements of hardware of machine. I am giving you minimum requirements as follows:
P4 3.0 Ghz or Athlon 64 3200+
Intel Motherboard With Onboard Video, Sound, LAN
1 GB RAM
160GB Hard drive
Disc drive(DVD-RW)
Portable USB Hard drive for backup
According to users need applications can enable and configure. In this article we are going to discuss Distant Access, Domain Controller, Terminal Server and DNS Server.
Terminal Server:
As mentioned earlier Terminal Server is used to login to the server to run servers installed applications. But by enabling Terminal Server you also need a Terminal License Server. Depending on the type of licenses that will decide how a lot of users can login on server. Terminal Server and Terminal License Server can equally install on same machine. To permit the licensing servers go to control panel > add and remove programs > add and remove windows components > select Terminal Server Licensing and install.
To login on the server from a terminal you can use Distant Desktop which is having Windows XP or Vista operating system. To find distant desktop Press Start button then go to All programs menu -> Select accessories -> Click on communications -> go to remote desktop. You can login on server by entering name or IP address.
Remote Access/VPN:
By VPN one can use the server from distant places. The server will provide you an IP address from its DHCP pool or you can select manually by entering a range of IP addresses the server will offer to its distant user. The next step is to establish a connection to the server’s shared resources. To do this click start -> run -> and type server name or server IP Address.
Domain Controller:
By setting server as a Domain Controller you can control network policy through your server. If all the users workstations are on the server’s domain, you can block user’s movements. You can define their limits. Active Directory is comes With the Domain Controller. Adding network users, configure domain control and workstations.
DNS Server:
DNS server is used to reduce memorizing IP addresses. One can easily remember names instead of IP addresses. This is very basic things which I shared with you. Hope this will help you little bit.
